Position Description

The Mechanical Project Engineer will focus on optimizing manufacturing processes, improving production efficiency, and ensuring the reliability of mechanical systems and equipment.

Area of Responsibility

This position will combine the technical expertise of a mechanical/Industrial engineer with the management skills needed to oversee projects from conception to completion. The areas of responsibility for this hybrid role include both mechanical/industrial engineering tasks, project management functions and oversight of maintenance operations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and program control systems for equipment, including PLC programming for automated processes.
  • Implement and lead automation-related projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and specifications that enhance production efficiency, reduce cycle times, and minimize human intervention in manufacturing processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives at the site.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and completion of small-scale capital projects related to mechanical systems and equipment, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.
  • Work with Lamberti engineering partner to develop CAD drawings of process flows.
  • Develop and oversee the Maintenance Program.
    • Lead and supervise maintenance staff and contractors to ensure all maintenance activities are carried out efficiently and safely.
    • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance program for mechanical systems and equipment.
    • Plan spare parts inventory with an emphasis on critical parts
    • Plan and manage maintenance-related projects, such as equipment overhauls, replacements, upgrades, or facility expansions.
    • Ensure that all maintenance activities follow safety and regulatory standards.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and control system development.
  • Familiarity with control system design, sensors, actuators, and industrial robotics.
  • Familiarity in CAD software for design automation and floor layout.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment and industrial processes.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience in Operational Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies for improving production processes.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push, pull, and work in cramped spaces and move around the site to inspect equipment, and supervise installations.
  • Use of hands to handle tools, equipment, and machinery during project assessments. Occasional climbing of ladders or stairs and balancing on uneven surfaces.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Must adhere to safety protocols, wearing personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toe boots and high-visibility vests.
